Position: Youth and Family Coordinator

Note: This position will be filled later this year.

Purpose of the Position: To build an engaging environment that attracts youth and their families for the purpose of experiencing Jesus and God in their life.

Major Functions: To develop, coordinate, and direct a youth and family program. Working with the Pastor and current youth resources, the Youth and Family Coordinator position will be responsible for recruiting, developing and training volunteers to staff the programs. Additionally this position will also be responsible for developing systems that recruit and engage youth and families. Connect youth ministries to the overall goals of the congregation. Advocate for including youth and families in all aspects of the congregation.

Traits Desired: The individual in this position should be passionately interested in working with Youth and possess a good understanding of Christian values, Presbyterian theology and Presbyterian practices. Also, the ability to work with all ages of youth and their families, communicate well, and a willingness to work within the systems of the church are very important qualities.

Hours:

  1. Hours will average 20 per week with the understanding that some program activities and/or weeks require more or less time.

  2. Working hours will be revisited after 3 months and again at 6 months.

  3. A core number of regular office hours are to be set in coordination Session and Church Office.

  4. A Sunday morning presence will be a standard part of hours required.

  5. The Youth & Family Coordinator will attend Church Council/Church Conference and any related,
    Youth Ministry program meetings/activities as required.

  6. Attend trainings as necessary.

Qualifications:

  1. Experience and education in childhood education (professional or volunteer) is necessary.

  2. Desire to work with children and an understanding of the necessary steps to develop a functional and thriving program.

  3. Must submit and pass all background checks and screening associated with Washington State Law. References will be checked.

  4. Good organizational, communication, and coordination skills a must. Ability to work both independently and with staff and volunteers is essential.

Responsibilities/Duties:

  1. Maintain a health and growing spiritual life and lead others in doing the same

  2. Develop and coordinate educational programming for K-12 Children and Youth that includes worship, study, fellowship and service opportunities.

  3. Be aware of the hopes, concerns and needs of youth/families in your community and determine how WPC might serve them.

  4. Identify program needs, initiate program development and coordinate activity. This applies to the initial buildup of programs but also revising programs as needs and populations change.

  5. Recruit, develop and train volunteer pool for all youth programs.

Terms of Employment:

  1. Compensation whether hourly or salary will be determined by the WPC.

  2. A performance evaluation by WPC Session will take place within two months of hiring and yearly after that.

  3. This Job Description/Contract shall be self-renewing, unless notice of termination or revisions are given by either party.

  4. The work relationship may be terminated by the employee given a one month notice.
