Deacons are the heart of the church! They minister to those who are in need, to the sick, to the friendless and to any who may be in distress both within and beyond the community of faith according to the Book of Order. It tends to be a behind the scenes ministry. When you think of church, what do you think of? Worship, fellowship, compassion, helping needy, etc. All the caring/fellowship/hospitality/mercy/visitation types of things are areas in which the Deacons participate. The Deacons at WPC provide care, comfort, prayer and compassion to all, but each Deacon also has a list of people for whom they provide specific care. They pray for these people, contact them and or make visitations either at home or in the hospital. They send cards on special occasions and coordinate provision of meals when needed. Deacons are also able to serve communion.
